Teams can make anywhere from $200 - $1000 in one day on a bottle drive. This is a fast way to raise some cash at the beginning of the year!
Decide on your neighbourhood in advance.
Approve the event with your association to ensure you have necessary insurance coverage and to ensure that there are no other teams holding a bottle drive on the same day.
Distribute flyers around the neighbourhood in advance of the bottle drive. Some neighbors may save bottles and have them ready.
Organize a couple of trucks or trailers to collect the bottles. That way one truck can be dropping off bottles at the bottle depot while the team continues to collect.
Contact your local bottle depot. They like to be advised if a bottle drive is coming in.
Have a lot of adult supervision! Kids can get careless - Make a rule of no crossing the street to run from house to house!
Break the kids and parents up into teams and organize yourself so that teams are not soliciting the same house.
Teams will sometimes lose site of each other - If available, it helps to have cell phones and a list of cell phone numbers to distribute to parents before you start.
