Ticket selling can be a fundraiser alone or a great way to compliment another fundraising event or tournament!
If you are going to sell tickets, here are a few general tips:
Publish the winner either on your team website, at your local arena or at your place of business. People like to know that someone actually won the prize even if they don't know who it is.
Make sure your tickets look good and have all the right information on them. Ensure that you have your team name, prize, draw date, buyers name and number, and your website address if posting the winners.
Draw the ticket in public. Why not have another team draw the ticket at a local game?
Don't charge too much for your tickets! People are more likely to spend $1 or $2 for a ticket. If you are charging $5 per ticket make sure that the prize is tangible.
Solicit a business only once in a season and make sure that you do it early if you are looking for donations of any kind. Businesses that donate to community organizations usually have a budget. Once this budget is gone they will not donate any additonal products or funds. So the idea is to ask early!
Here are a few ticket selling ideas:
Raffle Prizes
Find a local business to donate a prize. Make sure that you give the local business credit for supporting your team by adding their logo or name to your tickets. Make sure you check with them first as some companies like to remain anonymous.
Your team can also purchase a prize. Make sure that you have a ticket quota for each team member to sell so that you recoup your money and make a profit.
Baskets
Pick a theme! This works well just before a holiday such as Valentine's Day or Mother's day.
Ask each parent to donate an item or donate a small amout cash towards the purchase of basket items, take the money from your team account or visit local businesses to donate items for the basket.
Sell the tickets at the rink during your games, to family and friends and at your place of business etc.
Lotto Boards
Use lotto boards in lieu of selling 50/50 tickets. Your team will make more money because you don't need to give half of the cash away.
Purchase approx $13 - $15 of lotto & scratch tickets on game day. Put them on a piece of bristol board and sell during games and tournaments.
